It’s been reported that Joker 2 will have some musical elements, but is the movie a full-on musical? Star Zazie Beetz has commented on this, saying in an interview that people “will be surprised” by the kind of movie that Joker 2–which is officially called Joker: Folie a Deux–turns out to be.

“I don’t think it’s going to be what they expect, around it being musical,” Beetz told Variety. “We all sort of express musically and dancing in our lives day-to-day. I think it’s going to work really well.”

In 2022, reports suggested that the Joker sequel might be a full-on musical, but that was walked back somewhat later. It’s been more recently reported that it is more akin to A Star is Born, in that it will have some musical elements but is not a traditional musical.
